Its All About Family

Our family established Phoenox Textiles in 1954. Jack Mosley was a local weaver who began by making fabric for bus seats and traditional hearth rugs that were woven from locally sourced wool, acrylic, and cotton from Lancashire. A true family business, Jack’s son, David, focused on production, new products and securing new contracts. He is well remembered by staff that still work here for his renditions of ‘Oh Danny Boy’ as he toured the factory. Having started with just ten staff the company now employs over 200 people across its two locations. Phoenox is now managed by a third generation of the family - Adrian, Charles and Liz Mosley who had the brilliant idea of bringing our lovely products direct you through Hug Rug, now with a 4th generation recently joining the team we hope to bring you even more fabulous products.

Sustainable By Design

  • We’re proud to be a zero waste to landfill business and we have new solar panels being installed at our Huddersfield mill in 2026, which will allow us to generate our own electricity.
  • All of our Hug Rugs and Eco-Washable Rugs are machine washable at 30ºC, helping reduce water and energy use at home.
  • Many of our ranges are made using 100% recycled materials, including plastic bottles and recycled cotton, giving waste a second life.
  • Continuously researching new design techniques and manufacturing processes to lessen our impact every year, including investing in the latest energy-efficient machinery

What We Recycle Every Year

4.8 million recycled cotton t-shirts become yarn for our tufted rugs

11.4 million recycled plastic bottles are turned into soft yet durable fibres

147 tonnes of industrial plastic waste is reused for our rubber mat backings

From West Yorkshire to the world

It all began in Huddersfield in 1954, with local weaver Jack Mosley, who made high-quality fabric for bus seats and traditional hearth rugs from Yorkshire wool and Lancashire cotton. Jack's son, David, focused on all things production and business, and together they formed Phoenox Textiles. We're proud to say that this strong sense of family continues to this day with the third and fourth generations of the Mosley family being at the helm of the business.

West Yorkshire has always been at the heart of the UK's textile industry and that heritage is infused throughout our business, with our 150 strong modern workforce coming from generations of local textile workers. Their 'money can't buy' knowledge, experience and skills are those passed down from father and mother to son and daughter.

Father and son duo, Jack and David Mosley, formed Phoenox Textiles all the way back in 1954.

Hug Rug was formed in 2007 with aim of creating natural and sustainably-focused products for your home.
